Spider

roots in the ground
the web a dense spiral
of girders and tailbone
tar pits and payphones
but he isn't the least bit
concerned

he has spun traps before
in the lush undergrowth
of sticky sweet rainforests
caught gargantuan prey
in the gossamer on
the trees

and even found a living
in the dense heat
of the desert
caverns scooped out
handful by burning handful
convoys swallowed wholesale
without sound

this is a different world
a better world for him
the air wafts laden
with the smells of
the hunted and
all roads lead back
to where he lies
waiting
